any legal copyrights, so I will remove it immediately. For this reason you
won't find exact note-for-note tablatures, there are no complete lyrics from
copyrighted songs, there is no standard notation which would - in opposite to
tablature - allow an exact reproduction of a song.
Before you start to initiate proceedings against me, contact me. Blues is old,
and copyrights may not be as clear as they seem.
Can you copyright a Blues? If you say yes, no problem, you
didn't understand it. Let's take the most common Blues form, a 12 bar Blues
(look at the URL). Once you know the key and maybe the sub form (i.e. quick
change Blues, minor Blues, Chicago style, Texas style, West Coast style,...),
you know the chords. They are quite simple. Can you put a copyright on E/A7/B7?
I don't think so. Can you put a copyright on a lick, a fill, an improvisation? No,
because all those licks were already played before by someone else. Many songs
are very similar, licks interchangeable. That's Blues: it's not that important
what you play, it's how you play it, how you arrange it. And this
can't be described with a simple tablature. The tablature is nothing more than
an aid to someone who starts with the Blues guitar. Just to describe where to
put the fingers. An advanced Blues player doesn't need tablature any more. He
knows how to play it from listening. Also keep in mind that many Blues
artists died more than 50 to 75 years ago, so the copyright protection (of the
song, not the recording!) has expired according to the laws in many countries.
The only thing that could be copyrighted are the lyrics of a song. That's why I
don't include much of it, only snippets. Although they are very interesting to
read and understand. Some phrases however - Lord have mercy on me! - will never
get a copyright.
