Encore
Review
No opening act. The band entered the stage nearly on time and immediately started to play. Big disappointment: no video screen. No fretwork details.
The first songs were from his solo work, very much folk and country oriented. Tasteful guitar work, combined with flute and fiddle and his typical mumbling voice. Not much guitar solos. The first real guitar solo started with Philadelphia, an extended solo was on Sultans of Swing (which seems to be the same as Layla for Clapton). The crowd went mad when he played the typical runs, but he added also some other melodies. The main part finished with a melancholic Telegraph Road, for the encore he played stuff from the older days. The band enjoyed the show, all were relaxed and played well.
For someone normally visiting only Clapton concerts (like me) it was a nice
experience. It's a different type - more song based, less guitar solos and
nearly no improvisation, nothing unexpected. Nevertheless a perfect
sound and a great arrangement of instruments. And finally Mark really gets
a unique tone out of his guitars, which is simply - beautiful.
Can I recommend it? Yes!
